2025 Inspiration of Life Honoree

Rolf Benirschke

Rolf Benirschke, a former NFL placekicker for the San Diego Chargers, is a passionate advocate for health, wellness, and giving back to the community. Known for his strength under pressure on the field, Rolf is no stranger to taking hits but there’s no training camp or set of drills that can prepare you for the moment you or someone you love hears the words: You have cancer.

Rolf’s cancer diagnosis was discovered early through an NFL alumni health screening. Thanks to early detection and the expert care of his team at UC San Diego Health, he has now been cancer-free for over a year.

His journey from athlete to survivor serves as a powerful reminder of why early detection and access to care matter. As we gather for this year’s ACS San Diego Golf Classic, Rolf’s story highlights the true purpose of our mission: to fund life-saving research, patient support as well as for their families, advocate for progress in the fight against cancer, and bring hope to everyone impacted by cancer.

From game-winning kicks on the field to inspiring others off the field, Rolf continues to impact the community with his resilience, humility, and heart.

By bringing together business and community leaders to this event, you are helping support the American Cancer Society’s mission to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support, to ensure everyone has an opportunity to prevent, find, treat, and survive cancer.

We can’t thank you enough!

Our Mission

Mission Funding: General

As the only organization combating cancer through advocacy, discovery, and patient support, the American Cancer Society has made significant contributions to the fight against cancer over the last 110 years. We advocate for lifesaving policy changes, promote healthy lifestyles to help prevent cancer, and provide information, answers, and support to people in every community who have been touched by cancer. We also research cancer and its causes to find more answers and better treatment.

Yet, there is still work to be done – which is why we are so glad you have joined us tonight! The American Cancer Society continues to work tirelessly to fund research and provide support for all types of cancer. And thanks to your generous support, we work to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.
